Rabid Rabbit - Technicolor Yawn (1987)

Some bands are style over substance. Some bands have both. Rabid Rabbit had both.
Comparisons don't come easy as they are numerous. A touch of this a touch of that. This Arizona band released their one and only album the same time Jane's Addiction did (maybe even months before) and that is who they are often compared to. Musicianship is top notch, they even play a few instrumentals, and this LP is rock solid. Much sought after in the Phoenix area, I was finally able to find this LP at PDQ Records in Tucson after searching for a couple of years. Tony Karaba also played with Arizona band Mighty Sphincter and Mike Sversvold with skate punk legends JFA.

Members:
Vince Bocchini - Vocals, Twelve String, Harp
Tony Karaba - Guitar, Vocals, Car Jack
Alan Anderson - Bass, Vocals and Glass Breakage
Michael Sversvold - Drums, Percussion, Piano, Vocals

Three of the four members are still active in the Phoenix punk/rock scene.

Vince has Thee Unfortunates. Tony and Mike (Bam Bam) are in Asses of Evil. See both these bands at Hollywood Alley in Mesa on Oct 26th with Jeff Dahl and Blanche Davidian.

thanks so much for sharing this album. I grew up on Scottsdale, and bought this album at a skate shop somewhere in phoenix and used to listen to it all the time. Of course being a teenager i lost this record somewhere. This brought back lots of great memories, thanks!

Saw them open for Janes Addiction 1989, at a club, in a strip mall called The Underground. Was located at 35th Ave and Camelback Rd. Awesome show! Great memories. Saw Danzig twice too. Still own the LP in great shape. Looking to sell. Rare indeed....

I grew up in Phoenix. I first saw Rabid Rabbit when they toured in, 1985-1986? I saw them play at a local dive bar in a scary crime ridden downtown section of Houston Texas. The place was called Cabaret Voltaire. Years later my family moved to Phoenix AZ, and I saw the band play at many a local venue. Rabbit Rabit even played at a local show me and some friends on mine put on at a house in the Maryvale section of Phoenix. 4 police cars and 2 helicopters showed up at about 2 am to break up the show. Man what memories! I now live in San Diego where I work as a Software Project Manager. I often think back to those days of going to bars and watching bands like Rabid Rabbit play. Vince RIP! You will be missed brother!

It us such a trip to read comments and have them spark memories of shows I feel privileged to have attended. The Jane's show and the Mason Jar shows (thank you Franco) are all part of the mosh pit of my brain and soul.....love love love the music that will never meet its equal!
